<hi style=afpcap>The P-40 was the last of the Curtiss Hawk series, and bore no resemblance to the P-1 biplane fighters of the mid '20s. The P-40 was produced in substantial numbers for the Army as well as being supplied to allied nations including Britain, China, France and Russia. Only the P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang fighters were produced in greater quantity than the P-40. The Warhawk saw service within all theatres and was highly successful in the fighter, ground attack and reconnaissance roles.</hi>
